Welcome to the Angling and Outdoor Live Blog
“Please explain to me how to get contours showing on my fishfinder.” “Why can’t I see fish on the display?” “What do I need to do to link my two units on my boat?” These are just some of the questions we hear on a weekly basis from anglers coming in to Angling & Outdoor World, and as a tackle supplier to the majority of anglers in the Lowveld, we took the initiative to approach the leading fishfinder supplier in the country, Lowrance SA, to present a training day which our customers could attend to further their knowledge of their specific fishfinders, and in so doing, open up an underwater world not understood by many anglers.
After a little quick organization, dates were set for the first ever Lowveld Lowrance Open Day. Bookings were limited, and places sold out swiftly for this unique event hosted at Klipkopje Dam on Saturday the sixth of April 2013.
On a beautiful autumn afternoon, thirty-five or so eager anglers and their families were greeted by Peter Zonneveld and the Angling & Outdoor World team. John Minnie, who has been with Lowrance since 2009 and is currently the technical support representative for Africa, gave very useful training and demonstrations on the Elite 4, 5 and 7 units, as well as the HDS- button and touch series units.
John also spent several hours on the water with boat owners, helping them understand the units installed on their own boats. He gave them tips on interpreting what they see on-screen and assisted by correcting some of the settings. Others brought their units along without their boats and he was able to assist them as well.
Mikala Plotz, dealer liaison for Lowrance and University of KwaZulu-Natal graduate, gave advice on various units and spoke about the Cash Back rebate offer currently available on specified Lowrance products and encouraged those attending to take advantage of Angling & Outdoor World’s generous special discount offer for the day. A delicious lamp-on-spit along with various refreshments were made available to the attendees, who must have thoroughly enjoyed the event as they stayed on into the night to soak up the cheerful atmosphere. We have only received positive feedback from everyone involved and believe that after the success of the first open day, we will gladly be able to make it an annual event. Thank you to Lowrance SA and everybody who contributed to make the day the huge success that it was.
Fishing puts me in touch with another of nature's species, in beautiful surroundings that are as old as time. That is where I want to be; that is how I'm renewed.
