Welcome to the Angling and Outdoor Live Blog
Details of an exciting new competition which will hopefully become an annual event.
It’s always great to hear of new initiatives in and around the Nelspruit/White River area, and we at Angling & Outdoor World have recently been asked to be involved with a venture brainstormed by TJ Maré of the Mpumalanga Leadership Foundation.
From 30 March to 1 April 2012, an angling competition will be held at Primkop Dam to aid in raising funds for the Nelspruit Community Forum (NCF.) NCF was established in 2004 in response to the many people living on and from the streets of Mbombela, a geographical area in Mpumalanga (province of South Africa). Included are men and women, boys and girls, black and white, educated and not educated. Many faith communities and businesses were busy caring for these “jewels” in different ways. Knowing that a collective and central service point will benefit the society in broad; NCF started operations. NCF is an NPO registered with the department of Welfare and a Public Benefit Organization registered with SARS with 18A status. To find out more about NCF and the good work they’re doing, visit their website at http://www.nelspruitcommunityforum.org/
Primkop Dam (25° 22’ 59” South, 31° 4’ 17” East) has become a very popular venue with bank anglers over especially the past 16 months or so. Many of our customers are regulars at this particular lake and have recorded some pretty impressive catches there. The lake is nearly 2km’s long and boasts a healthy population of Carp, Barbel, Largemouth Bass and Blou Kurper. In the past while, we’ve had customers and fellow anglers reporting catches of Blou Kurper of up to 2,5kg, Bass of up to 3,5kg, Barbel of up to 12kg and Carp of nearly 20kg at Primkop. Not bad at all.
The fees for the comp are as follows. R50 per person, plus R50 per peg, plus R50 per night to make use of the campsite. Important to mention is that all profits generated by the event will go to NCF. As mentioned above, the venue is great, there will be 28 pegs available, you can enter a team to fish or fish by yourself and added to all this, there will be a clinic in the lapa at Primkop on the Saturday morning. Prizes will be awarded to, amongst others, the biggest Carp, biggest Barbel and heaviest bag (Barbel only.)
Naturally, you’ll be able to get all the tackle, gear and bait you need for the competition right here at Angling & Outdoor World. See you on the water!

Fishing puts me in touch with another of nature's species, in beautiful surroundings that are as old as time. That is where I want to be; that is how I'm renewed.
